Tricky Driving Areas: How To Manage Them
School zones
One of the tricky driving areas everyone knows about are school zones. The speed limit in these zones is very low-usually around 15-20 mph. Not to mention that they can cause traffic to slow to a crawl when the school day is over. Plus, you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for anyone (especially kids) who might run across the street without paying attention.
Ultimately, it’s always better to be safe than sorry when heading through a school zone. Keep your speed low and your eyes on the road at all times. Getting a ticket here can seriously cost you. If you know there’s a school zone on your commute route, either try and leave before traffic gets bad, or find a new way around to avoid it altogether.
Road work
Another of the tricky driving areas everyone’s seen are road work sites. Depending on where you live, roadwork might almost feel like a never-ending affair. While this can be inconvenient, it is important to keep the roads in good shape. However, judging by how work zone fatalities have gone up, many people don’t understand how important it is to be careful.
Remember that the construction workers are right there next to the road. An accident here could easily end up hitting them too. Watch your speed, and follow and signage or instructions that are posted. Don’t try and get ahead of others, especially if you’re being funneled into one lane. This can easily result in massive pile-ups, which no one wants.
Animal crossings
Animal crossings can be nearly anywhere, so many don’t think of them as tricky driving areas. However, that all changes when you see an actual animal here. As a result, keep your speed down, watch the road, and if you see an animal, flash your lights and honk to try and scare it away.
