Advanced Safety Features: A New Age of Protection
Collision warnings
Collision warnings are quickly becoming the most common advanced safety features out there. These warning systems help give drivers a heads up when they’re approaching a potential road hazard. For instance, this could be anything from debris on the road to a driver slamming on the brakes ahead.
These systems make use of a combination of cameras and sensors around the car’s front to detect problems and alert the driver. As an added safety element, these systems will also use auto-braking technology, which can react even faster than the driver in some situations. All a driver has to do after is apply a bit of pressure to the brakes, and they’re back in control.
Lane departure warnings
Lane departure warning systems are another one of the advanced safety features becoming pretty common on cars these days. On the surface, they work somewhat similarly to collision warning systems. Cameras and sensors on the sides of the car will track its movements, and see if it’s drifting into another lane or too close to another car.
Once these sensors detect too much drift, they’ll alert the driver. Many times, this is done through a simple beep or a vibration in the wheel. However, some systems will even auto-correct the drift for the driver to avoid accidents!
Traction control
It’s no surprise that cars lose traction on slippery roads. Whether it be rain, snow, or ice, slippery roads pose a risk to all drivers. The lack of traction can cause your tires to slip and spin out of control. Due to this, better traction control has also become one of the more-popular advanced safety features.
These systems use sensors placed near the tires to measure their rotation speed. Based on this speed, the sensors send signals to the engine to adjust power levels as needed and help the car regain traction. If needed, the sensors can also auto-pump the car’s brakes to keep the driver from losing control.
