Whether you have a long commute to work or vacation, or just exhausted, driving while tired is hard. It can be difficult to keep yourself awake behind the wheel. If you don’t have time to stop to the side of the road and nap, take steps for staying awake. It can be hard figuring out what works for you. However, give it some time and you’ll be attentive on the road before you know it.

Staying Awake: Avoiding Accident

Have a Good Playlist

Something that’s fun is making a good playlist. It can have all your favorite songs that you sing your heart out to. Also, it’s an easy way to help staying awake. Focusing on the music makes you keep your attention on something: the lyrics, beats and harmonies. If you need to, turn it up! Try to make this playlist upbeat. That way, if you need to turn it up to keep you awake, it’s nothing that’ll slow you down.

Listen to a Podcast

Hearing the word “podcast” makes some people groan but don’t! However, podcasts come in very handy on long rides. There are many different podcasts to choose from that can help you with staying awake on the road. For example, there are political ones, comedy ones and even ones for D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)! Pick a type that sounds interesting and check it out.

If you really don’t like podcasts, audio-books work just the same. Go to your local library and check out an audio-book that seems interesting. That way, on your ride, you can listen to an interesting story to keep you up.

Quick Catnaps

While you may think drinking a bunch of coffee is the most helpful thing, its not. Coffee can easily dehydrate you and you can’t have that on the road. Instead, drink lots of water, pack snacks, and turn into a rest stop every now and then for a catnap. Taking that 20 minute napcan not only help you with staying awake, but it can make you more efficient! Try to get a few in your drive and you’ll be feeling like a new person.

Driving alone can take a toll out of anyone. On top of that, driving while tired can’t be all that easy either. However, making sure you have the tools that help you with staying awake will make your ride saferand fun!
